A friend of mine has been feeling low for a while now. I have been trying to think of ways to cheer him up - perhaps a trip out or a meal somewhere - but he never seems up to it. I realise that when someone is depressed, getting out and about can be a real challenge. I decided to make him a kindness jar: I simply wrote lots of compliments and positive things about him on pieces of paper, and popped them into a jar! It is a really simple gift and he says it has helped him get out of bed in the mornings. He keeps the jar by his bed and if he needs a boost, picks out a piece of paper to give him confidence. e.g. today he picked out 'You care about animals, and protect the spider's webs in the garden'
